Varithena
What is Varithena?
Varithena/Ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy (UGFS) of varicose veins is a useful treatment option. It is a relatively safe method in the case of limited, small varicose veins. In theory, a justified concern could be raised that the injection of an active drug into the large superficial venous vessels may potentially cause life-threatening consequences.
What should you expect from treatment?
Sclerotherapy generally does not require any recovery period. You will be able to walk immediately after the treatment. Bed rest is not recommended, but you may need to avoid strenuous exercise for a few days after sclerotherapy. It is recommended to wear compression stockings for a short time after having sclerotherapy.
What kind of results are achieved?
Sclerotherapy can reduce symptoms and improve the look of the skin. It works in about 80 out of 100 people who have the procedure.
